I have been privileged to have worked over the years with a number of Craft groups and individual practitioners allowing me to gain experiences of both traditional and the more modern Craft ways. I am eternally grateful for the wisdom gained from both approaches but always I remained drawn to the old ways of regional Witchcraft and folk-magic. Always my main teacher has been the very land I live in. Whilst (like most traditional Crafters) I am predominantly a solitary practitioner, the ways of the lodge, hearth and coven will always have a place in my Craft. Through a chance meeting I was at a young age admitted into a group of traditional witches operating in great secrecy in Cornwall's West Penwith. |
The group operated around a central theme derived from an old Witch legend of that particular locality (and Cornwall has many of these). To the traditional and Cornish ways of the group had been added elements from a mixture of traditions born from the group members' other Craft involvements which included influences (via personal contact and initiatory lines) from the likes of Gerald Gardner, Alex Sanders, Ruth Wynn Owen, Robert Cochrane & Co (Regency Coven), Ithell Colquhuon and Tony "Doc" Shiels. |

As can be imagined this made for a very interesting mix and given my personal Craft inclinations I responded well to the traditionalist practices in particular to the Cornish Central theme. After a few years I was ritually consecrated to lead the group and eventually the time came when I made the decision to part with the very closed group with intentions to found a group open to those with a genuine interest. Whilst Cornwall is seen from the outside to be a veritable hotbed of traditional Witchcraft; there were little or no real opportunities for genuinely interested folk to explore traditional Witchcraft with others in a group context and interest in Cornish witch-ways was losing ground to the more accessible ways of Wicca. Bucca's Hearth was founded as a Witch-Circle or 'Coven' open to those who have a genuine interest in working with others of like mind to explore the rites and ways of Traditional, regional Witchcraft, "low" or "Country Witchcraft". |

There is obviously an emphasis on Cornish ways and Like most Traditional Craft circles we work with the Horned One who in this group is acknowledged as the horned Cornish witch-god/dess Bucca of triple aspect. We work with land powers, the ancestors and trance within our rites and workings. The Cornish ritual year is celebrated and methods of magic traditional to Cornwall are explored.
Those who are interested in applying to be admitted to Bucca's Hearth are welcome to make contact and show that they have a genuine interest in such ways and have at least made attempts to investigate the Traditional Craft.
